Cheryl Austin, M. A., CCC

Cheryl’s Website

Cheryl Austin earned her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (#1580) and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#3547).  Her counselling experience over the last three years has connected her with clients of diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Working in community agencies Cheryl has provided therapy for individuals with mental health, substance abuse issues and general personal and relationship concerns. She also worked as a counsellor in a private treatment centre for addictions located on the West Coast.

Cheryl believes in the importance of creating a safe and strong therapeutic relationship between herself and a client.  It is through that relationship, where counselling including strategies, education, motivations, skills, empathy and listening, can change the pain and struggle of issues around relationships, trauma, depression, and addiction to a life filled with balance, acceptance, peace and fulfillment.

In her private practice, Cheryl also offers professional and confidential counselling for those struggling with addictions through the process of recovery, while building a strong foundation for a better and healthier future. Addiction creates stress on health, family, relationships and work. The individual can experience lack of confidence, mood swings, negative thinking, anxiety, and depression while struggling with compulsive behaviours, strong emotions and difficulty in coping with life. For some people with addiction, having lived through a history of abuse, hurts, losses and trauma, only increases the struggle for them.

Addiction affects people of all ages from adolescence right up to senior citizens and from all walks of life. No matter if the individual is an executive, a parent, a student, a grandparent or an employee, addiction does not discriminate.  Addiction, whether it is alcohol, gambling, sex, video games, internet, or substance use is about trying to satisfy a need that won’t and can’t be filled by the compulsive behaviour.
